Technical Department of Yerevan State University (YSU) / YerPL – Polytechnic Institute of Yerevan / Հայաստանի ազգային պոլիտեխնիկական համալսարան

The first institutions of higher education in Armenia, Yerevan State University, was founded in 1921. It included a Technical Department, which confirred degrees in architectural engineering. In 1930, the program was reorganized as the Construction Institute of Armenian SSR, which the departments of architecture and construction, hydrology, and chemical engineering. Among its graduates was Anna Ter-Avetikian.

In 1933, Construction Institute was transformed into Yerevan Polytechnic Institute (YerPL), subsequently establishing campuses not only in the capital Yerevan, but also in distant regions such as Gyumri and Vanadzor. It offered degrees in industrial and civil construction, architecture, hydrotechnical construction, road construction, water and sewage infrastructure construction, and heating and gas infrastructure construction.

In 1991, the institute became the State Engineering University of Armenia; in 2000, it was renamed as Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction; and since 2014 it has been known as the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia (NUACA).

YerevanProjekt / Yerevanproekt/ институт Ереванпроект

A design and construction company founded in 1958 in Yerevan, Yerevanproekt offered various services including project design and technical documentation, as well as the planning of transportation networks, water and sewage infrastructure, and geodesic research.

EAA – Engineering Academy of Armenia

The Engineering Academy of Armenia was founded in 1992 as a public organisation based on the Armenian part of the Engineering Academy of the USSR. The institution consists of several research and educational institutions, as well as industrial enterprises, and aims to support the industrial development of the country. In addition to architecture, urban planning and civil engineering, electrical engineering and mining construction are taught at the EAA.

Yerevan Industrial College (Ереванский индустриальный техникум) / A. Tamanian Construction College

Yerevan Industrial College was founded in 1921 to provide professional technical eduation. Among its first pedagogues was a woman, Sofia Asatur. The first cohort (52 people) included primarily the residents of Armenian orphanages. Among the first generations of college’s female graudates was the future writer Anahit Sahinyan. In the 1970s, it was briefly directed by a woman, Anait Khachatrian; another woman, Anait Oganisyan, has been directing it since 2004. Among its female pedagoges were Perchanush Msryan-Oksuzyan, Asya Akopyan, and Nelli Barsegyan.

The municipality of Yerevan employed a number of urban planners, architects, and engineers.
