Irena Bajerska was born in 1943 in Cisównicy, Poland. She studied at the University of Natural Sciences in Warsaw and received her diploma in landscape architecture. From 1972 to 1992, she worked in general building research (Badawczym Budownictwa Ogólnego) in Warsaw, while in 1980 she was given the opportunity to teach in the field of architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology (Polytechnika). She continued her teaching assignment until 2014.
With a focus on the design and execution of gardens and greening of public spaces, she opened her own private landscape architecture bureau in 1990, which she maintained until 2013.
She is particularly known for her green roofs at the University Library in Warsaw. Irena was part of the architectural group “Stowarzyszenie Architektów Polskich” (SARP) in the field of landscape architecture. She also chaired the competition jury at SARP from 1985 to 2004 and later served as a member from 2012 to 2015.
