Abeer Arkawi is a Syrian architect, born in 1962. She studied architecture at University of Damascus in Syria and at Technical University Dresden in Germany. As a child, the numerous books her father had in his own library inspired Arkawi. This motivated her to travel and study abroad. In this course she was able to receive a DAAD scholarship. Arkawi believes in an architecture that is not only based on technical aspects, but also considers the relation to humans and their social needs.
After her studies she returned to Syria, she worked for several years at the Directorate-General for Antiquities and Museums. Afterwards Arkawi became an lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, at University of Damascus.
