Short Biography and Work

Born in 1954, Ana Uncu graduated from the Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture in 1979. She began working as an architect at regional design institutions already before graduation: in 1976-1977, she was employed at the Tulcea County Design Section, and in 1977-1979–in Ploiesti Design Studio. During this period, she designed residential buildings for both towns, a thermal bath for the town of Busteni, and a zoo in Bucov. She also worked on renovation projects for residential and educational buildings. 

In 1980, she moved to the Research Institute for Metallurgy in Bucharest, where she worked on design and renovation projects for factories in Bucharest and other Romanian cities. After 1990, she worked at the private architectural office of Constantin Mihalache. Finally, in 1997, she Uncu joined the joined the Ministry of Public Works and Regional Planning, where she worked on the preservation of urban environment and zoning regulations, with a particular focus on the preservation of vernacular architecture. In 1998, she returned to the Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture to complete a post-professional program on historic preservation.
