Short Biography

Alaverdyan Rouzan was born on 25.01.1946 in Yerevan and graduated from the department of architecture in Yerevan Polytechnic Institue in 1970. From 1970-1995 she worked at Yerevan Project Institute. Since 2000 she has been working as a Deputy Minister of Urban Development of the Republic of Armenia. For her work she received the “Lenin Young Communist Union” award (for the project of Lybrary named after Khnko Aper) in 1981 and also became the winner of “The best structure” of an international architectural competition in 1995. Her father was the architect Razmik Alaverdyan.

Work

Her work includes architecture and urban planning projects, such as: National Children’s Library in Yerevan (1978), “Armenian State landbuilding” institue’s building project (1976), “The Geology” project of the museum building (1986) or planning and development for the reconstruction project of Marmarashen region for restoration of Gyumri after the 1988 earthquake (1989-1990/91).

Fig. 1: Description by Anna Bronovitskaya: Artist Ruben Gevontian covered the walls of the reading room of the National Children's Library in Yerevan with a mural created with colored pencils. It depicts the luminaries of Armenian culture from the ancient times on. Among them are the architects of the building: Levon Galumyan (with a model of the building) and Ruzanna Alaverdyan.
