Graduated in 1970 from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Havana, Professor Rey Rodriguez, PhD in Technical Sciences, has a vast professional record, covering specialties such as urbanism, territorial and urban planning. She has also worked in national and regional development programs, as well as in the creation of policies for the development of habitat, precarious settlements, urban rehabilitation and the enhancement of cultural heritage. She worked within the Capital’s Integrated Development Group to develop the Havana city’s master plan. She is still working with the National Communities Group to strengthen community development within the different typologies of the city. Also she has in the present alternated her work in the field with teaching at the CUJAE as a full professor at that university.
As architect, urbanist and landscape designer, Rey works together with sociologists and psychologists by assisting the adaptation of campesinos in population settlements like Alamar in East Havana. In view of the persistent housing shortage, self-construction groups called Microbrigadas, were set up in Cuba since 1971 under the leadership of Rey and other architects and urbanists.
