Short Biography

Martha M. Garcilaso de la Vega has developed outstanding work in the design of urban complexes and residential buildings, as well as in research tasks. Since 1971 she has been teaching at the undergraduate level and since 1999 she has participated in master programs offered by the Faculty of Architecture of the CUJAE. As vice-president of “Habitat Cuba”, she has coordinated and participated in different national and international events on the subject of housing in Havana City. She is a member of various commissions and groups dealing with housing and urban planning in the country, and has published several papers on these topics.

Work

As a designer she worked with designs for housing affected by disasters. She helps to regulate useful areas for the rehabilitation of heritage buildings in different parts of Cuba. She also works to prioritize the understanding of the informal living space and brings new perspectives on the way Cubans live.
