Brigita Adomonienė is known for her furniture art while Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union. She was born in Kaunas on 2 December 1931 and first studied architecture at the Institute of Fine Arts of the LSSR (from 1990: Vilnius Academy of Arts). After graduating in 1957, she was assigned to the Experimental Design Bureau of the Ministry of Furniture and Wood Processing Industry of the Lithuanian SSR. In the department, she worked her way up to the position of chief designer. In addition, she began teaching as a lecturer at her former college from 1978 and was recognised as a professor (1981) promptly with the end of her employment as chief designer (1983).
The furniture designer holds medals and other awards that she has received for her furniture works at Lithuanian and international exhibitions.
The present Presidential Palace (since 1997) was once the Palace of Arts in Vilnius. Adomonienė designed the furniture back in 1957 for the White Hall of the Palace. Her works can be found mainly in medical institutions in Vilnius, Kaunas and even Moscow. From 1964 to 1982, she was involved in the interior design of pharmacies, hospitals and sanatoriums. The designs were furniture sets for kitchens (Laumė 1969, Ventė 1971, Varsa 1981), bedrooms (Vaiva 1964), and living room sets (Vesta 1976, Vega 1979, Viesulas 1980).
