Short Biography and Work

Growing up as a part of the Hungarian minority in Romania, Murádin-Beyer graduated from the Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture in 1970. Murádin-Beyer became a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Cluj Napoca (1970-83). In 1984, she received a Ph.D. for a dissertation devoted to the vernacular architecture of Transylvania. She also authored a survey of carved stone chairs in Transylvania, and published a series of articles “Our Everyday Home” for the journal Új Élet (The New Life) in 1984-85. In addition to teaching and research, Murádin-Beyer was also a practicing architect, and designed civil and religious buildings in Cluj-Napoca and Medgyes. She is married to Jenő Murádin, art historian and educator, a recognized expert on Hungarian art in Romania.
