Margarita Hayrapetyan was born on 27 November 1923 in Batumi, Georgia. She graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of her native city in 1949. She then worked as a lecturer at the institute (1963-1983). Immediately afterwards, she was given a position at the Moscow Soyuzsportproject Institute. Hayrapetyan’s work mainly includes the design of sports facilities in Yerevan and other Armenian and Georgian cities. These include a ski base at the Tsahkhadzor ski resort, Armenia, and a Hrazdan riverfront swimming pool complex in Yerevan. In addition to this, she also designed cultural facilities, such as Yerevan’s Puppet Theatre, both the exterior facade (1968) and the interior furnishings (1975).

Hayrapetyan’s work was multifaceted, as she also designed the Hovhannes Tumanyan Park with ornamental fountains, as well as the nearby boulevard of the same name (1981).
