In 1948 Nada Šilović graduated from the Architectural Department of the Technical Faculty in Zagreb. Afterwards she started to work at the Institute for Construction and Design in Rijeka. In the city of Rijeka and the wider area of Istra, Nada Šilović had the opportunity to realize numerous architectural projects. Later she returned to university to obtain her master’s degree from the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. In 1956 she worked as an architect in Šibenik, Croatia. From 1963 on, she worked in the Urban Planning Institute of the city Zagreb. During this time Šilović worked on the spatial development plan of the city Černomerec and on a special development plan for Zagreb.
Nada Šilović retired in 1980 and passed away in 2009. She was known as an architect capable of working on a diverse range of projects: from residential and cultural buildings to restaurants, factories, administrative buildings, and hospitals.
Alongside Ada Felice-Rošić, Nada Šilović helped rebuilding Rijeka, which was destroyed significantly in the Second World War. While working together, they designed some of the first postwar residential and commercial buildings, planned and built according to modernist principles to suit the needs of the new working class. The reconstruction of a former school into a science library (today the University Library) and the Gallery of Fine Arts, which was the biggest investment in the cultural sector during Rijeka’s post-war era, remains one of the most celebrated projects by Nada Šilović.
