Short Biography and Work

Tumanyan was born on 10 May 1907 in Tbilisi, Armenia, and graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. After graduating, she worked as an architect in the architectural office of Alexander Tamanyan.

Her main works, apart from residential buildings, include hotel buildings. She also participated in the development of larger buildings in Yerevan. These include the Spendaryan Theatre of Opera and Ballet (1933) and the Government House of Yerevan.

In 1966, Tumanyan took over the management of the Tumanyan Museum (Дом-музей Ованеса Туманяна) from her sister. The museum opened in 1953 documenting the life of her father Hovhannes Tumanyan, whom has been poet. Until 1986, Tumanyan, was both the director of the museum and involved in the construction of the museum’s new building.
For her work, Tumanyan was titled “Honorary Worker of the Culture of Armenia”.
