Upon graduating in architecture from Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute, Turan Muradkhanova started the doctoral program at Warsaw Polytechnic Institute in Poland. She mastered Polish and used it to write her dissertation, also publishing a book about Polish architecture and urbanism between 1945 and 1980 in 2003. Upon returning to Soviet Azerbaijan, she assumed a teaching career, subsequently becoming professor of architectural design and urbanism at the Azerbaijan Institute of Engineering and Construction. She also served as associate dean of the Architecture Department. She was a corresponding member of the Baku-based Eastern Countries International Academy of Architecture. Muradkhanova was known for her drawing talent and expertise on many fields, including historic preservation, urbanism, and architectural theory.
