Short Biography and Work

Born in Kyiv in 1926, Shevchenko graduated from Kyiv Institute of Engineering and Construction in 1957. She worked at the Construction and Architecture Administration of the Kyiv City Executive Committee, where she was engaged in the protection and restoration of the city’s architectural monuments. In 1971, Shevchenko moved to the Ukrainian Design Institute for Restoration Ukrprojektrestavratsiia. Between 1994 and 1999, she worked at the State Research Center for Architectural Heritage of Ukraine.

Her restoration and conservation projects include the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Hluchiv (1957-1958), several interior design restorations in Odesa (1959), the refectory of St. Michael’s Monastery, Kyiv (1973-1982 with Irma Karakis), the inventory of historic buildings in the Kyiv district of Podil (1974-1984), the Contract House in Podil (1984-1996), and the restoration of the historic Contract Square and the Theater Hall in Podil (1988-1989).
