Short Biography and Work

Vasilka Ladinska (née Petrovska) was born in Kumanovo in 1928. She completed her architectural studies at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Belgrade, where she graduated in 1954 in the class of professor Milan Zloković.

Upon graduation, she started her professional career at the town design bureau “Debarce” in Skopje, and after one year employed at the Institute for Town Planning and Architecture, which in 1957, transformed into the Institute for Housing Construction in the Skopje District. From 1961 until her retirement in 1987, she worked at the design enterprise “Makedonijaproekt”. Ladinska worked as a designer, consultant, and design reviewer on numerous projects, primarily designing residential buildings and community and healthcare facilities.

Ladinska was the laureate of several professional and national public awards. She was presented with the “13th November” Award of the City of Skopje for residential buildings in the “Jane Sandanski” neighborhood in 1975. In 1983, she received a special prize at the Second Macedonian Architecture Biennale (BIMAS) for a residential building on Skopje’s JNA Avenue designed in collaboration with Blagoja Micevski. The design of a residential building on Ilindenska Street in Skopje earned her two prestigious prizes: the Republic “Borba” prize for architecture (1986) and the main prize at the Fourth Macedonian Architecture Biennale (1987). Ladinska received the “Andreja Damjanov” lifetime achievement award from the Association of Architects of Macedonia in 2005 for her contribution to national architecture.

She was a prolific author or co-author of more than 130 designed and built structures and participated in numerous architecture exhibitions and design competitions. Apart from the awarded ones, she was the author of Communal Bank in Kumanovo (1964), and co-author of “Josip Broz Tito” High School in Skopje (1966), one primary and two nursery schools in Skopje, and residential building in the “City Wall” complex in Skopje.

Ladinska was a member of the Association of Architects of Macedonia (AAM), and a member of the Academy of Architects of the Association of Architects of Macedonia. Besides the designing, she was interested in writing about architecture and published various articles in professional magazines.
