For Armenian architect Perchanush Msryan-Oksuzyan, crocheting, embroidery, and other crafts were more than a hobby: when her husband was killed in the Second World War, she had to turn to sewing to support the family. She continued creating beautiful crafts for the rest of her life. Click here to view a colleciton of Msryan-Oksuzyan craft works, generously shared by her granddaughter Elena Shkulyova.

When it comes to architecture, women have rarely been seen in leading roles anywhere in the world, but not in Cuba’s capital, Havana, where urban renewal is exemplary and their skills are demonstrated by many internationally award-winning works. In this way, they have contributed to the preservation of one of the largest existing “architectural museums” in the world.

The traveling exhibition ‘Frauen erneuern Havanna’ [Women Renewing Havana], accompanying the book of the same name, highlights the female dimension of the architectural world heritage of Havana’s Old Town.
